Oh, and speaking of baby chicks. Check out my latest video on raising baby chickens to see my own little new flock in action.
I’m still open to naming ideas so drop me some comments and let me know your suggestions!
A Cozy Crib: Setting Up the Perfect Brooder

Your baby chickens need a warm, safe, and cozy home for their first few weeks. A brooder box (a fancy term for a chick nursery) should have:

A heat source (heat lamp or brooder plate) to keep them at about 95°F for the first week.
Pine shavings or straw for bedding—no slippery surfaces. Or you’ll have some awkward chicks on your hands.
Plenty of space (at least 2 square feet per chick) because personal space is a thing, even in the chicken world.
And what pairs better with watching baby chicks settle into their new digs? Sipping from the Warren Kimble Rooster Folk Art Mug—because chicken parenthood deserves a stylish sip! Get yours here.
Chow Time: Feeding Your Growing Flock

Raising baby chickens means keeping them well-fed. Chicks need a high-protein starter feed (at least 18-20% protein) to fuel their fast growth.

Here’s a seriously helpful tip when it comes to giving food and water to your little cuties. Be sure to elevate their waterer slightly to keep it clean (because chicks are MESSY).
If you don’t, I promise you, you will be frustrated almost immediately as the food and water get mixed with the bedding. Yikes, it’s a nightmare!
Now, you can find things to elevate your feeders yourself. If you do, I highly suggest you figure out the what and the placement before you get the chicks.
Take it from me and my own personal experience as you will see on the video below. Trying to run around figuring it out at the last minute because suddenly the feeders are getting full of bedding, is no fun!
With that in mind, if you can, consider getting the kind of feeder kits where they come with stands to elevate them. These Top Filling Chick Feeder and Waterer Kit with Scoop on Amazon are a great and affordable option.
The Great Outdoors: When Can Chicks Go Outside?

Once your baby chickens are fully feathered (around 6-8 weeks), they can start exploring the great outdoors! Slowly introduce them to their coop and run so they can scratch, peck, and sunbathe like the tiny divas they are.
