The Fascinating Snowman Collection
It’s with pleasure I offer these three fascinating facts about snowmen. I must say, I love snowmen, in theory. Growing up in snow filled Cleveland, Ohio I built my fair share of them in my day. I appreciated them more when I was younger and still tolerated the cold.
However, after living in the South for roughly 3 decades, as they say, my blood has thinned. So, I love snowmen in theory. I primarily like pictures, images, coffee cups and mugs with image of snowmen.
In fact, some of my earliest cup collections were snowmen cups I used to make hot chocolate with my kids and grandkids. This was long before CupofMood ever existed.
It’s with pleasure I consistently add new snowmen coffee cups, mugs and wine glasses. So, let me present you some of my recent additions along with some fascinating facts about snowmen.
Michelangelo Made One
My first fascinating snowman fact is according to Mental Floss, Michelangelo made a snowman. This was when 20 year old Michelangelo worked for the Florence ruler and politician Piero de’ Medici. After a heavy snowfall, Medici ordered the Michelangelo to create a snowman in the courtyard of his palace.
There are no descriptions or images of the Frosty Michelangelo created but reportedly eyewitnesses said it was very beautiful. Can you imagine how amazing that snowman probably was?
Building A Snowman Can Count As A Workout
If I liked snow more, I would absolutely love this fascinating fact. According to this article by Exact Sciences, building Frosty can be a great workout! Building a snowman burns aboutĀ 285 caloriesĀ per hour. It also can strengthen both the upper and lower body, especially if the snowmanās body is extra-large and made with lots of snow to lift.
The Worlds Tallest Snow People
Bethel, Maine was the home of the World’s Tallest Snowman in 1999 and believe it or not, in they beat their own record! In 2008 the built the World’s Tallest Snowwoman! How do you even dress up a snowperson that big? Let me tell you what they did.
The Snowman, Angus, King of the Mountain was about 10 stories tall. Olympia, the Snowwoman was about 11 stories tall! Their mouths were car tires, buttons were skidder tires, their arms were 25′ spruce trees, and their hats were 16′ and 20′ diameter fabric made by middle school students. Olympia’s eyelashes were alpine skis and they say were to die for!
