Boardwalk and Baseball was a theme park in Central Florida from 1987 – 1990

Boardwalk And Baseball The Forgotten Place

Boardwalk and Baseball, most people have no idea there was ever another theme park between Orlando and Tampa. Looking at this old black and white photo, it’s hard to believe how quickly it came and went. But it’s true. In fact, it was so long ago, it’s hard to find a current image of the location.

But, I assure you, it’s true. You had to be around back in the late 80s to very early 90s to have a shot at even knowing what Boardwalk and Baseball was. To be precise, you would have had to been around in the short three year period from 1987 to 1990. But if you weren’t don’t worry.

Let’s take a walk down memory lane to revisit the magic of this iconic park. At the same time, allow me to introduce you to a new addition to my CupofMood Shop.

Why Boardwalk And Baseball Is My CupofMood

Like many things these days, this blog post originates from a unique cup find! This time, it’s the Boardwalk and Baseball Glass featured above. I recently found and added it to my CupofMood Shop.

After seeing it, I wondered how many people even remembered the short lived theme park. So, of course, I decided to write a blog about it. Whether you remember it or it’s your first time hearing about it, let’s check out this long forgotten part of Florida theme park history.

Remembering The Old Theme Park

The brochure showed some of the rides

Nestled in the sunny state of Florida, was a paradise for thrill-seekers and families alike. This theme park enchanted visitors with its thrilling rides, vibrant boardwalk atmosphere, and a nod to America’s favorite pastime: baseball. From heart-pounding roller coasters to charming carnival games, Boardwalk and Baseball had it all.

The Brochure

It’s fun looking back at old brochures. These images are from one of the original brochures. Take a look at some of the images and you’ll be able to appreciate that was almost 40 years ago!

The Rides

They had an old school wooden rollercoaster

There were no shortage of rides to explore at Boardwalk and Baseball. That was part of the allure. It was built along the old school concept of a Coney Island style amusement park. They had a mixture of old school wooden rollercoaster and a new style loop de loop rollercoaster like the one shown in the video below.

So What Happened?

Financial problems seem to be a big part of the problem

Well, it gets kind of juicy from here. According to the website, ThemeParkHipster, it simply couldn’t compete. From the type of rides, the the experiences guest had, to low morale, to you name it. It seems the theme park was doomed from the very beginning.

In fact, apparently things got so bad, this is how the ThemeParkHipster describes it in her blog:

Baseball fans were not even invested enough to help secure the parks future and on the afternoon of January 17, 1990, the new owners, Busch Entertainment, shut down the park with patrons still inside.

It was rumored that the closing came based on a claim from Busch Entertainment that the theme park never made a profit.

So, there was the unceremonious end to Boardwalk and Baseball. Closed and probably forgotten by many. But don’t worry, you can still get a piece of theme park history with one of my vintage beer glasses.
