I have been eyeballing the strawberry guavas on my tree for months. And finally, after four years of waiting, they were ready enough for me to harvest a whole basket. I felt amazing, excited, and genuinely happy that I could finally taste the fruit I had watched grow for so long. Seeing the fruit progress over time made the harvest even more satisfying because I had truly been watching and waiting for this moment.

🌳🍓 My Backyard Orchard Dream Keeps Growing

Bloom Planted Stemless Wine Glass – CupofMood

Trying new plants, trees, and shrubs is simply part of who I am. My goal is to have an orchard in my backyard, and right now I already have banana trees, a mango tree, an orange tree, an avocado tree, a moringa tree, and of course this strawberry guava tree.

Watching everything grow has been such a joy, and this strawberry guava harvest feels like another sweet step forward in that dream.

Suggested intro for video section:
Earlier this year, my banana trees produced about four sets of bananas, so I already had one exciting backyard harvest to celebrate.

📱🍓 Sharing The Progress With My Gardening Groups

Facebook posts showing my strawberry guava progress from green fruit to ripe red guavas ready for harvest.
I shared updates with my Facebook gardening groups while the strawberry guavas ripened and asked for help choosing the right harvest time.

One of the fun parts of this process was sharing my strawberry guava progress with my gardening Facebook groups. As the fruit slowly changed over the months, I kept posting pictures and asking if they looked ready yet.

Their feedback helped me feel more confident about when to harvest, and it made the whole experience feel even more exciting because I was sharing the wait, the questions, and finally the reward with people who understood exactly why I was so thrilled.

🍓🌿 What Do Strawberry Guavas Taste Like?

Pink guava, strawberries, lemon, and a red fruit drink illustrating the flavor of strawberry guavas.
Sweet strawberry notes, tropical guava flavor, and a gentle tartness help describe the taste of ripe strawberry guavas.

Strawberry guavas are small, aromatic fruits that deepen from green into mottled red and red-purple shades as they ripen. Their flavor can be sweet, tart, fruity, and floral, with notes that may remind people of strawberries, passionfruit, and roses. The skin, flesh, and seeds are edible, although the firm seeds are usually swallowed whole or removed from recipes with a strainer. You can learn more through this helpful Strawberry Guavas guide from Specialty Produce.

Michael already loves guava, so he described the flavor as guava with a strawberry taste. Since this was my first time tasting guava, the strawberry-like flavor stood out most to me.

You can eat these little fruits whole like grapes, skin and all. The redder ones tasted especially sweet, and several fruits with a little yellow coloring were already delicious too.

In fact, I think I ate almost as many as I harvested. They were that enjoyable! My next strawberry guava project will be homemade jam.

About two cups of freshly harvested strawberry guavas create the fruity base for the CupofMood Strawberry Guava Lemonade.

Start with about two cups of strawberry guavas. Choose fruit with rich color and a little softness, then enjoy a few fresh ones while you work. I certainly did.

Rinse the fruit thoroughly under cool running water. Since the whole fruit goes into the saucepan, a careful wash prepares the skin for cooking.

Place the halved guavas into a small saucepan. Then, add one and three-quarter cups of sugar and one cup of water.

The original recipe idea used one cup of sugar. Since Michael and I enjoy sweeter drinks, I increased the amount to match our taste. That choice gave my lemonade the sweetness I wanted while allowing the lemon to add its bright tartness.

Allow the cooked fruit to cool slightly. Next, pour the mixture through a fine-mesh strainer and gently press the softened guavas with a spoon.

Straining removes the firm seeds and creates a smoother syrup. It also helps capture more fruit juice and color for the pitcher.

Michael loved the fresh guavas, and he loved the lemonade too. His reaction made the first harvest feel even more satisfying because I had been excited to introduce him to a new variety of one of his favorite fruits.
