Cruising with your mom has a way of turning everyday moments into something you carry with you for years.
It’s the conversations that happen over dinner, the laughter that shows up out of nowhere, and the feeling of being fully present together. Over time, those moments become the stories your family tells again and again, each one bringing you right back to that exact place and time.
One of the memories I hold closest is from a 7-day family Caribbean cruise in 2015. Both of our moms came, our children, in fact we were celebrating our younger daughter’s graduation from high school. And our grandchildren came.
I love the picture above. All of us sitting together at dinner, recapping what a fun day we had. At the time, it felt like just another a beautiful moment. Now, it means even more.
That’s because my mother-in-law passed last year, and being able to say we shared those cruises with her—especially her very first cruise—means everything. That dinner, that laughter, that time together… it’s something I will always carry with me.
And that’s what cruising with your mom really gives you. Moments that stay, long after the cruise is over.💖

1. Beach Excursions Are One Of The Best Things To Do On A Cruise With Your Mom 🌴☀️🏝️

Stepping off the ship and straight into island life brings a shift in energy that’s easy to feel. The colors feel brighter, the air feels warmer, and the pace of the day opens up in a way that lets you enjoy every part of it.
In fact, I remember walking off the ship in Nassau and seeing that bright turquoise water. It’s the kind of view that makes you pause for a second and take it all in before the day even begins. And if you know me, I was determined to get myself in some of that beautiful turquoise water.
Moreover one of my favorite cruise memories is heading to Junkanoo Beach with my kids. Instead of booking an excursion. We kept it simple and made our own way there—and that turned out to be one of the best decisions of the entire trip.
Junkanoo Beach is a whole vibe in and of itself. It’s a beautiful beach within walking distance of the cruise port, and the energy there made it feel like we had stepped right into the heart of the island.
We laughed, relaxed, enjoyed the water, and soaked in every moment together—and the fact that we didn’t spend a dime made it even better.
If you want to know exactly how to enjoy Junkanoo Beach for free, I shared all the details here:

That’s part of what made it such a special memory. It felt easy, fun, and completely natural. The kind of day that flows without effort and turns into something you talk about long after the trip is over.
And yes… we still talk about that trip 💖

Another moment that stands out is our excursion in San Juan, Puerto Rico with my mother-in-law. We went on a tour through the city, learning about the culture and history. Of course, taking pictures together. It created a shared experience that felt meaningful in a different way.
That’s why bringing that feeling home is part of what makes travel so enjoyable. Whenever I use one of my souvenir mugs from Puerto Rico, I reflect back on that trip and many others we’ve taken to Puerto Rico.
Indeed they transport me back to beautiful Puerto Rico. Beach-inspired drinkware carries that same relaxed energy into your everyday routine. Especially making it easy to revisit those moments.

2. Relaxing and Sipping Together Creates The Moments You Talk About Forever 🍷🍹💖

Cruises always have something going on, and one of my favorite things to do is lean into experiences that feel just a little different from the everyday. A martini class, a tasting, or even a themed drink event gives you a chance to try something new together while adding a fun twist to your time onboard.
Those moments have a way of turning into stories you keep forever. Especially when a little alcohol is involved. In fact, it’s kind of how a hilarious ongoing family story started.
On one fun cruise, my kids still laugh and tease me about what we’ll refer to as the “Jose Contigo” moment 😂🍹. In fairness, there were quite a few drinks involved, the hot tub, and good music.
Somewhere between the conversation, the laughter, and maybe one extra sip, I created a whole little dance and song that instantly became a family classic. My Jose Contigo dance and song seems to make it’s way into quite a few family gatherings, all these years later.
I must admit that to this day, every time they bring it up, it takes me right back to that exact moment on the ship.
That’s what makes these experiences so memorable. Whether it’s a martini class 🍸, a wine tasting 🍷, or simply enjoying drinks together on the balcony, it creates space for those spontaneous, joy-filled moments that become part of your story.
Now, while we’re on the topic of drinking. If you’ ve ever wondered if the Carnival Drink package is worth it, you can get my two cents in this video:

3. Spa Days And Quiet Moments Add Another Layer To Things To Do On A Cruise With Your Mom 💆🏾♀️🌿💖

Along with the energy and excitement, cruises also create space to slow down and fully relax. That balance is part of what makes the experience feel complete.
On Carnival Mardi Gras 🚢, my kids gifted me access to the Thermal Suite for Mother’s Day, and it quickly became one of my favorite parts of the trip.
From my recent Carnival cruise to Cozumel, I learned the thermal suite isn’t available on every Carnival Ship. I was soooo looking forward to spending time there.
The Thermal Suite has all kinds of amenities that kept me going back every day of that cruise. I have to admit, I’m STILL thinking about how awesome that spa was. That’s part of what made it such a wonderful Mother’s Day gift, the memories lasts long after the cruise is over.

After the spa, I loved easing into a slower pace—sometimes sitting out on the balcony, sometimes just watching the ocean roll by 🌊. Those quiet moments give you time to take everything in and appreciate the experience in a deeper way.

Bonus: The Pictures That Take You Back 📸💖

Some of my favorite cruise memories live in the pictures we took along the way.
One that always stands out is from a cruise with our youngest son Tyson back in 2017. It was just the three of us, and that image instantly takes me back to that exact moment.
Right after that picture, we headed to the Sail Away Party and got our Wobble on 💃🏽!

Drinks, sunshine, and time together 💖 Some of the best moments on a cruise happen when you slow down. Sitting on the deck, the ocean stretching out in front of you, a drink in your hand, chit chatting with your family and nowhere to rush off to.
Those are the conversations that stay with you. I’ve had so many moments like that with my mom and with my kids, just sitting, talking, laughing, and enjoying the day as it unfolds. And somehow, those simple moments turn into the ones you remember the most.
Sometimes it’s a drink by the pool 🍹
Sometimes it’s wine at dinner 🍷
Sometimes it’s just being together with no plan at all
And then sometimes, like with Jose Contigo, it turns into a full-on hilarious memory your kids will never let you forget! 😂

The Final Sip 💖🚢🌴

If your cruise happens around Mother’s Day, experiences like this pair beautifully with thoughtful gifts. They connect directly to shared memories and make everyday moments feel even more meaningful 💖

Finally, when you think about things to do on a cruise with your mom, the activities are only part of the experience.
The laughter, the shared adventures, the quiet moments, and the memories you create together are what truly stay with you.
Those are the moments that come back to you when you least expect it and remind you just how special that time was.
Until Next Time,
Namaste,
Khadeeja 💖
