I added water fitness and a change in diet to help me lose 20 lbs. Funny Few Diets Mug – CupofMood

A year ago, a group of wonderful water fitness instructors changed my life. I was tired, achy, bloated and frustrated. I knew I needed to move my body, but nothing felt right. Traditional workouts were too harsh on my joints.

And honestly, that surprised me! I had been an avid Jazzerciser, I loved step aerobics and really enjoyed a good HIIT workout. But my body just couldn’t take the same type of exercise I had been doing when I was 20 years younger.

That’s when I discovered water aerobics for women over 50 and these wonderful water fitness instructors who changed my life! Thanks to their routines, support, and positive energy, I’ve lost 20 pounds over the last year.

Not to mention, I gained strength, confidence, and a new sense of joy in movement.

So, welcome to Sip and Splash! Where I share my weekly aqua fitness playlists, personal progress, and the water workouts that are helping me thrive in midlife.

How I Lost 20 Pounds with Aqua Fitness

This didn’t happen overnight. My weight loss came from consistency. I started last spring, when we were still in the apartment waiting for our house to be rebuilt after the fire. Then when it was too cold to swim outside, I joined LA Fitness and started taking Aqua Fitness classes there.

In fact, you can see my first class there in this video I recently posted on my new Sip and Splash YouTube Channel.

My first day of aqua fitness classes at LA Fitness

Once we moved back in the house and it warmed up. I dropped my membership to start working out in the community pool until our pool is ready for swimming again.

The key is consistency! I was in the pool three to four times a week. Following inspiring instructors, listening to great music and listening to my body.

I must admit, most times, it often feels more like dancing that’s in the pool than a workout.

That may be because I made sure that every playlist I created had music that would be fun and upbeat. Of course with a healthy mixture of oldies and goodies.

I also created playlists that help target a different goal: flexibiility, core strength, and cardio, or simply stress relief.

I combined that with intuitive eating, staying hydrated (always with a water bottle of water right at the edge of the pool!), and celebrating small victories.

And the result? See for yourself below.

Consistently sticking to my water fitness routines helped me lose 20lbs!

The Instructors Who Made It Happen

Let me introduce the water aerobics instructors I trust and love — and who guide every playlist I put together.

Lea is joy in motion. Her creative, energetic routines are perfect for cardio days when I want to get my heart pumping and my mood lifted.

Moreover, her infectious smile, the great music and moves all make for a fun time! For some of my workouts, I have an all Lea playlist!

Koreena Zumba

Koreena’s water fitness videos will have you rocking out just like you did back in the day like the picture on this

Koreena’s routines are Aqua Zumba routines and are awesome for a full-body groove session. I use her workouts to burn calories and feel like I’m at a pool party!

Alyssa Tuininga

You’ll get a kick from working out to Alyssa’s videos. Just like in this

Alyssa’s calm but effective style helps me target muscles gently. She’s my go-to for warm ups, cool downs and stretches.

Richard Gromley

Marlee King

When I think about Marlee, I think about her being upbeat and fun. I especially love some of her targeted routines like her arm routines. I know my biceps and arms muscles will be nice and toned from doing aqua fitness with Marlee!

FIIT with Stacey

When I want a complete workout in one video, I I turn to Stacey’s high-intensity, low-impact routines. Her water FIIT sessions leave me feeling energetic, strong and accomplished.

Introducing My Aqua Fitness Playlist One

I love all of the routines in this aqua fitness playlist.

This playlist is one I exercised to on Monday. It’s got some of my favorite aqua fitness instructor and some different ones that I haven’t worked out with much yet.

I’m looking forward to sharing my carefully curated playlist of aqua aerobics, Aqua Zumba and water fitness videos. All with a special focus on mid-life women!
